1934 Hudson Challenger Convertible
Coupe. A restored extremely rare convertible. We will
use a direct quotation from Hudson's Manual, Built on
the Hudson Principle of Unit Engineering which states as
follows:
"This new principle of Motor-car
designing and construction, developed exclusively by the
Hudson Motor Car Company and used in the production of
all 1934 Hudson -built cars, is considered by automotive
engineers the most important motor car engineering
development in 15 years. It provides greater ruggedness
and greater power per pound of weight than any other
method of motor -car building ever known. It makes
possible a performance ability unmatched in the
industry, lower first-cost and greater economy of
operation. The Hudson Principle of Unit-engineering has
been tested and proved by ten of thousands of owners of
Hudson-built cars all over the world under all driving
conditions."
A car considered by many a head of
it's time with a powerful straight eight boasting that
you could actually, start in " HIGH " to test the
efficiency of the Hudson oil-cushioned clutch, "start in
high and you-go" "Your riding in a Hudson" Further
boasting, start in second and keep in second forty,
fifty, fifty-five... sixty miles an hour in second gear"
Powered by an eight cylinder L-head Type factory rated
at 108hp at 3800 r.p.m. This was backed by a Synchro-shift
three speed transmission.
The interior of this highly desired
collectible is easily accessible through extra-wide
Hudson doors and is finished in leather again to quote
Hudson's brochure, "Luxurious deep overstuffed
upholstery" and this was combined with Hudson Airplane
Instrument Panel. Airplane -type speedometer,
finger-touch starter, oil level gauge, a self locking
three position windshield control and package locker.
Another significant feature of this
iconic roadster is the "Rumble Seat" finished in the
same material as the interior, it too is deep and
luxurious.
The car is accented with a
contrasting pin stripe and each wheel is similarly
accented. Each carrying a Coker Classic wide whitewall
in 6.50 - 16.
This remarkable collector's car is
finished with set of skirts and color keyed rear mounted
spare.
